A seasonal worker who died climbing at Giant's Head Mountain last week has been identified as a Montreal resident.

Gael Julian D'Ostie-Racine, 23, died free-climbing near Summerland on July 14.

"D'Ostie-Racine was camping in an orchard at the base of Giant's Head Mountain, while he worked as a fruit picker," says the B.C. Coroners Service.

He decided to go free-climbing.

"Other workers from the camp witnessed his fall more than 100 metres down a cliff face. One of the other workers, who has first-aid training, was able to reach him, but he could not be resuscitated," the coroner said.

His family has been notified.
