Woman assaulted after dog poop remark

Police are asking the public to help them identify a man who assaulted a woman after she asked him to clean up after his dog.

The assault took place on Thursday, July 28, when the woman was walking with her young daughter on St. Paul Street. She saw a man with a chocolate Lab that defecated on the sidewalk and asked him to pick up the waste. The dog owner refused and the two got into a brief argument.

Later that day, the same male suspect approached the woman in Riverside Park. He spit in her face and attempted to punch her, but missed and then ran away.  

The suspect is described as being 5 feet, five inches tall with a thick build and thinning dark-brown hair. He has brown eyes with and a beard with a moustache. On the day of the assault he was wearing a Celtic green shirt and blue basketball-style shorts.

If anyone can identify the suspect or witnessed either of the altercations on St. Paul Street or in Riverside Park, they are asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
