Expect more than the usual opening-day offerings at Kamloops Farmers Market as the season begins Saturday, April 23, starting at 8 a.m.
More than 60 vendors are signed up for stalls along St. Paul Street at 2nd Avenue for the popular regional growers’ sale.
The bonus is that they’ll be presenting the fresh produce of a growing season two to three weeks ahead of schedule.
As tradition holds, the Saturday market runs from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and, starting May 4, the Wednesday market continues along Victoria Street between 3rd and 4th avenues, also between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
This could be the turning point for the seasonal outdoor market, which began in 1978. Community Futures and various local partners including the Kamloops Regional Farmers Market Society are planning a year-round farmers market as part of a food enterprise hub in the downtown core. The project could come to fruition as early as spring 2017.
