Victim in Via Rail accident identified

B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man struck by a Via Rail passenger train in Spence’s Bridge on the weekend.

Jonathon Christopher Harris, 40, of Kelowna was killed in the accident. 

At about 3:50 a.m. Saturday, the conductor of an eastbound train, travelling from Vancouver to Kamloops, saw Harris walking westbound on the rail tracks where they pass through the community of Spence’s Bridge. The train could not stop in time and Harris was unable get off the tracks. He was deceased at the scene.

The coroners service and RCMP continue to investigate the death.
