A man whose remains were recovered from Kamloops Lake last month had been in the water for more than two months, B.C. Coroners Service reported Wednesday.
The body of Darin James Derkson, aged 49, of no fixed address, was found Saturday, July 2, on the lakeshore by a boater who was beachcombing. The beachcomber immediately notified authorities, but Derkson was clearly deceased at the scene.
A full-scale search was launched after the man’s vehicle was found abandoned in Savona.
The coroners service and RCMP continue to investigate to determine the circumstances surrounding Derkson’s death. Foul play has been ruled out.
Derkson is believed to have entered the lake about 2½ months before he was found, sometime in mid-May. Anyone who was in touch with him or knows of his movements after the morning of April 18 is encouraged to call the Interior region coroners office at 250-861-7429.
