The air we breathe affects our quality of life

A comment on the NewsKamloops Facebook page in response to the story 'No attempt to bias Ajax results, expert says.'

I'm pretty sure none of my neighbours have wood stoves - I am in a new subdivision. Pollen and dust really aggravate my sinuses though! Noticing it right now with the road dust, even up here in "clean" Aberdeen! It happens every spring like clockwork - I used to think I was always getting sick until I moved away from Kamloops for a few years for school and then came back. But, I noticed I didn't have this problem at all when I was at University and it returned when I came back to Kamloops.

I recognize that this particular issue is not likely to harm me permanently or kill me, but people with asthma aren't always so lucky with regards to health impacts. Finer particles have much more serious harmful effects. Trust me, allergies DO impact your quality of life! It is already one of the toughest things about Kamloops for people like me. But there are lots of other things to love about our city - our city and citizens are worth protecting.

If Peter Reid really listened to all of us who have chatted with him about our concerns, he would know this.

This is so true! I don't think KGHM really addressed quality of life or health impacts of these kinds of issues well at all! I've seen what blows off the tailings from the old Afton and Ajax facilities. It isn't pretty!
