Suspects in custody after evading police

July 31, 2016 6:36 A.M.

Kamloops RCMP have two suspects in custody after pursuing them in a stolen truck over the past couple of days.

The vehicle was observed by an off-duty officer on July 29, 2016 on Halston Avenue, where it was being driven erratically. The same vehicle was later observed avoiding a road block early Saturday, July 30, on Mt. Paul Way.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday, a Kamloops Rural RCMP officer observed the same vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on the Yellowhead Highway. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled again.

The truck was observed a short time later in the residential area south of Columbia Street. Police contained the area but, in the interest of public safety, did not give pursuit.

After extensive patrols, the vehicle was found abandoned and the suspects were arrested a short distance away.

An Alberta man and woman, both 23, were arrested. Both were wanted on unrelated, outstanding warrants. The vehicle was confirmed as stolen from Grand Prairie, Alta. Both are expected to face a charge of possession of stolen property when they appear in court.
