UPDATE, 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016 — RCMP reported late Wednesday that they have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the stabbing of a Kami Cabs driver. The suspect will appear in court on several charges. Staff Sgt. Robert Daly of Kamloops RCMP thanked the community for helping to identify the accused.
EARLIER STORY: A cab driver remains hospitalized after suffering life-threatening injuries when he was stabbed early Wednesday while delivering a fare.
Police received a report of the assault at 1:58 a.m. Ambulance paramedics rushed the Kami Cabs driver to RIH.
The assault occurred on Pleasant Street near 8th Avenue on the South Shore. The suspect was last seen running from the area.
Kamloops RCMP issued a description of the suspect later Wednesday morning. He is Caucasian with short, dark hair, slender and was wearing a dark blue hoody with white lettering on the front that read, "Crooks & Castles."
Satinder Mann, general manager with Kami Cabs, said Wednesday morning that he's expecting an update soon on the driver's condition. Two company directors visited RIH to see how the employee is faring, he said.
Police are still trying to identify and locate the suspect, and have called in the detachment’s serious crime unit to assist with the investigation.
