Officer turned on red light, not green

Police action under investigation by IIOBC
August 16, 2016 4:29 P.M.

A police vehicle involved in a collision Monday while executing a U-turn on Hwy. 1 was turning on a red light, not a green light as first reported.

RCMP made the correction Tuesday after preliminary investigation. It was initially indicated that the second vehicle ran a red light, but that vehicle was proceeding on a green light.

At the time, the officer involved in the crash had activated lights and sirens in pursuit of a violator.

Kamloops RCMP said Tuesday that the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIOBC) had been notified of the accident and would be reviewing police action. IIOBC conducts investigations into incidents involving police that result in death or serious harm. There were no serious injuries reported on Monday’s collision, which occurred around 8 a.m. during rush-hour traffic.
