Music in the Park kicks off on local notes

June 17, 2016 11:40 A.M.

It’s hard to believe that Music in the Park is about to enter its 23rd season of bringing entertainment to Riverside Park.

The City and perennial sponsor BCLC announced the 2016 summer schedule of music, which begins Canada Day and runs to Aug. 31 with nightly 7 p.m. shows at the bandshell.

That’s 62 free performances in all. Producer Henry Small isn’t shy about tooting the horn over the institution that Music in the Park has become.

"I want to invite our community and our out-of-town friends to come and enjoy the longest running series of its kind in North America,” Small said.

Local musicians, Dodie Goldney’s Instamatics and Frapp City, begin the season on July 1 followed by Swing Cat Bounce July 2.

McDonald Park’s Music in the Park is on Fridays starting July 8 with country artist Bobby Gracia from Merritt and run until Aug. 26 with two local stars Nicole Clay and Caitlin Goulet. The Friday evening performances are at the Gazebo starting at 7 p.m.

For the nightly listings or to print a copy of the monthly schedule visit www.kamloops.ca/events/musicinthepark.shtml. All concerts are rain or shine and are subject to change.

I resent having to listen to Music in the Park. It is one thing to choose to go and listen and quite another to have it foisted on your each night. It is often so loud I can hear it even in the house. Please turn it down - noise travels across water!
