Mayor Peter Milobar didn’t waste any time making up his mind.
Milobar has arranged a news conference for Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. to say whether he will take a run at provincial politics and seek the Liberal nomination in Kamloops-North Thompson. He’s making the announcement in the parking lot of McArthur Island Sports Centre in North Kamloops.
The mayor’s announcement is the second inside a week after two-term MLA Terry Lake confirmed Thursday, Sept. 1, that he won’t be running in next spring’s provincial election.
Lake’s announcement triggered an immediate response from Steven Puhallo, North Shore Business Improvement Association manager, who announced his bid for the Liberal nomination the following day.
Milobar indicated last week that he was considering making the jump to provincial politics and that he intended to make up his mind within a week. He said he'd take a few days and discuss it with family.
With eight months to go before the election, two New Democrats are also seeking their party’s nomination. Barb Nederpel is running in Kamloops-North and Nancy Bepple is running in Kamloops-South. As well, the Green Party is naming a candidate in Kamloops-South on Thursday.
