Lions back for three-week training round

It’s springtime and the Lions’ roar approaches.

The B.C. Lions return to Kamloops for their seventh consecutive spring training camp starting Thursday, May 26.  

Under returning head coach Wally Buono, the rookie camp runs until Saturday, May 28, with full camp beginning Sunday, May 29 and continuing to June 16.

Fans are encouraged to attend a night practice that takes place on Monday, June 13, 6:30-8:30 p.m. 

The club has trained in Kamloops since 2010, using facilities at the Tournament Capital Centre, Hillside Stadium and TRU. As it stands, the Lions are confirmed to run training camp in Kamloops through 2017.

The City of Kamloops and the Lions hold the annual Fanfest event, an opportunity for fans from all around to meet the players and coaching staff. 

New this year, Fanfest will take place in the evening on Saturday, June 4, from 5-9:30 p.m. at Hillside Stadium. The Lions will run through a practice/scrimmage (7:30–9 p.m.) as well as a clinic, provide interviews and autograph opportunities. For the kids there will be face painting, inflatable games, prizes and more. The night wraps up with a fireworks celebration sponsored by BCLC.

With five Grey Cup titles to their credit — 1964, 1985, 1994, 2000, 2006 and 2011 — the club is considered B.C.’s most successful sports franchise.
