An NDP candidate is expected to announce her intention Monday, Aug. 22, to run in Kamloops-North Thompson in next spring’s provincial election.

Barb Nederpel, president of Kamloops and District Labour Council, stated in an email Friday that she’ll be making a public announcement regarding “the months ahead as we prepare to build a more fair and affordable British Columbia.”

Nederpel, a Health Employees Union second vice-president, makes the announcement in McDonald Park in North Kamloops. She has a background as a health-care worker and advocate.

The announcement would bring to three the number of local candidates who’ve signalled their intention to run in local constituencies in 2017. Kamloops-South Thompson Liberal MLA Todd Stone will be running for re-election, while MLA Terry Lake has yet to confirm his plans. Dan Hines, a counsellor, has said he will seek the Green Party nomination.
