KIBIHT field includes team from Hungary

Tournament scheduled to open Dec. 30

The latest edition of the Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament, aka KIBIHT, is scheduled to run from Dec. 30 through Jan. 4 at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre, Memorial Arena and Brock Arena.
The tournament will feature 12 Tier 1 teams and 20 in the Tier 2 division.
The Tier 1 division will include a U-16 team from Hungary. It will play in Pool C, with the Kamloops Jr. Blazers, Semiahmoo Ravens, and Spruce Grove, Alta., PAC Saints.
The Hungarians are coached by Glen Williamson, a native of Souris, Man., who grew up with former NHL head coach Andy Murray, now the head coach at Western Michigan U, and Garry Davidson, the general manager of the WHL’s Everett Silvertips.
Williamson spent two seasons (1991-93) as an assistant coach with the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets and later spent two seasons scouting for the Los Angeles Kings. He was an assistant coach with HC Lugano of the Swiss NL A in 2006-07 and head coach of the Budapest Stars of the MOL Liga in 2009-10. For the past three seasons, he has been the head coach of Hungary’s U1-8 team. The U-18s won gold in 2012-13 and 2013-14 in the IIHF Division 2A and Division 1B championships, respectively.
With the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation, he works as a national team development coach and program mentor.
The Tier 1 division also will include the Poe Prep team, Prince George Jr. Cougars, Airdrie Xtreme and Abbotsford Hawks in Pool A, with the Balgonie, Sask., Prairie Storm, Chilliwack Jr. Bruins and Vancouver Thunderbirds in Pool B. Organizers continue to work to add a fourth team to Pool B.
The Tier 2 division has been split into five pools.
The North Delta Sundevils, Williams Lake Timberwolves, Fremont, Neb., Flyers and Vernon Jr. Vipers are in Pool A, with the Vancouver Thunderbirds (T2), Salmon Arm Silvertips, Yellowknife Wolfpack and Castlegar/Nelson in Pool B.
Interestingly, Darren Bradley, the head coach of the Fremont club, was born in Kamloops. He also played in KIBIHT in 1992, with North Delta.
Pool C comprises the North Shore Winter Club (T2), Prince George (T2), South Anchorage Moose and Penticton Jr. Vees.
In Pool D, you’ll find the Langley Eagles (T2), Kamloops Jr. Blazers (T2), Spokane Jr. Chiefs and Campbell River Tyees. Pool E features the Seattle SnoKings (T2), Kelowna Jr. Rockets (T2), Calgary Canucks and PoE Varsity.
