Kelson Group has purchased property at 1430 Summit Dr. in Kamloops and intends to apply to the City for rezoning to allow development of a new medium-density multi-family rental complex.
If approved, construction is estimated to begin in the second half of 2016, with completion slated for late 2017.
Neighbours around the property — which has been the site of a restaurant, lounge and liquor store for the past two decades — have been invited to an information session to give their feedback on the proposed rental development. Sports Central Lounge, the last operation at 1430 Summit Dr., closed in April 2014.
“We want to be good neighbours and we want to know how our neighbours feel before submitting our application.” Kelly Fawcett, vice-president of construction, said Monday.
Kelson Group Property Management has been in operation for more than 40 years and has expanded into nine cities in B.C. and Alberta. The company’s head office is in Kamloops, where it purchased its first property in 1974 on Arrowstone Drive, a building it still owns.
“We strive to provide great service, quality apartments and reasonable rates to our residents.” said Jason Fawcett, vice-president of operations. “We hope that we will be able to offer Kamloops residents a new home that fits their lifestyle.”
Kelson Group is currently completing construction of rental housing in Langley, which will be ready for occupancy this summer. Kelson’s first rental build was Wellesley Court Apartments in Abbotsford, which is a 102 suite complex that opened in 2015.
