Kamloops woman killed in collision

A fatal crash north of Vernon Tuesday claimed the life of one Kamloops woman while another was airlifted to RIH with serious injuries.

The collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. when a Honda SUV turning left onto Hwy. 97 from Westside Road was struck by an eastbound Chev pickup, said Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.

An 18-year-old driver in the SUV suffered serious injuries while one of two passengers, a 55-year-old Kamloops woman, was killed. Another passenger in the SUV, a 54-year-old Kamloops, also suffered serious injuries.

Names of the victims have not been released.

The male driver of the pickup was uninjured but shaken up by the accident.

Hwy. 97 was closed for five hours after the accident.
