More than 500 young athletes are expected to take part in the 2017 B.C. Provincial Gymnaestrada next May in Kamloops.

Kamloops Gymnastic Trampoline Centre (KGTC) has been awarded the bid to host the 2017 tournament in partnership with Gymnastics B.C. on May 27- 28, 2017, at the KGTC Gym and Tournament Capital Centre.

The gymnaestrada is an annual non-competitive event with a focus on gymnastics for All. It is the largest event of its kind in the province.

Teams of all genders, ages, abilities, levels and disciplines are invited to participate, with a focus on showcasing their talents, creativity and love of gymnastics. The theme for 2017 is “In a land far away …”

Some KGTC gymnasts have been participating for seven years and attended World Gymnaestrada in Helsinki, Finland in 2015.

“We know we are up to the challenge,” the club’s organizing committee said in a news release.

KGTC has a solid reputation and history of hosting large competitive gymnastics events, so this was a natural fit, they said.

Teams of 10 or more gymnasts are invited to perform a routine to music in front of their family, friends, fans and the other participants. Interested gymnastics groups are welcome to participate; teams from as far as Nunavut have participated in previous years. During the weekend, all participants will take part in workshops and activities, in addition to performing their group routines.

Tickets for this one-of-a-kind event will go on sale soon.
