Combine the love for cats with the popularity of cat videos and what do you get?
It’s the annual Just for Cats Festival, coming to Hal Rogers Centre, 2025 Summit Dr., on Sunday, May 22, as a fundraiser for Kamloops SPCA. There will be two screenings of the festival selections, one at 4, the other at 9 p.m. Admission is $12.
The 2016 festival features an exclusive reel of the best cat videos on the internet programmed by Will Braden, creator of the Henri Le Chat Noir, and created by the Walker Art Center.
More than 10,000 people attended the touring Just For Cats festivals across Canada in 2015, raising $100,000 for cat care and welfare.
The idea for the first festival came from Katie Hill, a program associate at the Walker Art Centre in Minneapolis, Minn., four years ago. She suggested it as a bit of a joke, but the idea became a viral phenomenon, drawing a crowd of more than 10,000 fans to the inaugural event and inspiring feline fundraisers. The success led to a touring show.
