JAZZ VIOLINISTS are a fairly rare commodity and are usually not well known. The best known was probably Stephane Grapelli, mainly because he played with Django Reinhardt in their Hot Club of France. Stephane went on to a great single career after the Hot Club and played with many great jazz musicians.
Today we’re featuring another not quite so well known jazz violinist, Joe Venuti; a name familiar to jazz enthusiasts, but not so much with the general public.
Joe was a very accomplished musician and also played with some of the greats, Paul Whiteman for one and also had his own band for quite a while. He recorded many albums, you will find most of them here.
Check them out, I’m sure you will enjoy Joe’s renditions of many of the great tunes of the day. He even recorded one with Stephane Grapelli, both wonderful jazz violinists. I’m sure you will agree with me that Joe Venuti was a very talented jazz musician and his name belongs up there with all of the great ones. That’s it for RAATJ this week, let me know what you think.
