KELOWNA — A drunk driver fled the scene of a crash early Friday morning in Kelowna and hid in a bush, but a witness at the scene led police straight to him.
Police arrived at Spall Road and Harvey Avenue at 2:50 a.m. for a two-vehicle car crash.
A brown Honda Accord travelling eastbound on Harvey reportedly failed to stop for a yellow light and was hit by a grey Chevrolet Lumina, heading south on Spall.
The driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene, into some bushes by a nearby Esso parking lot.
A witness at the scene quickly led police to the man, where they noticed signs of intoxication.
He was arrested and forced to submit a breath sample at the Kelowna RCMP detachment, which he failed.
Additionally, the 60-year-old Merritt man was not licensed, and was operating the vehicle without insurance.
He has since been released from custody, and is expected back in court on Aug. 25, facing potential charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm.
The 18-year-old Kelowna man and 21-year-old Kelowna woman in the Honda where taken to hospital by ambulance with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
