A missing eight-year-old girl from Calgary has been found safe in B.C.

Calgary police say the RCMP found the girl, who went missing Wednesday, near Hope.

"The Calgary Police Service believes the girl was taken by her 19-year-old brother," said Calgary police. "The child’s family woke up to find the girl, her brother and the family vehicle all missing."

CTV Vancouver reported a debit purchase at a McDonald’s restaurant in Hope helped police trace the girl's location.

"The RCMP followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near Abbotsford once it was safe to do so, with the assistance of the Abbotsford Police Department," said Calgary Police. "The missing girl and her older brother were taken into custody without incident. The girl had not been harmed."

Charges are pending against the older brother. Investigators said they're not yet sure what motivated the abduction.

The girl's father has flown to B.C. to be reunited.

An Amber Alert was nearly issued.
