Everybody walked away from a crash between a semi-trailer and a pickup truck late last night at the intersection of Oriole Road and Highway 1.
The semi-trailer, turning west onto the highway shortly before 11 p.m., was struck by a pickup truck travelling east. Despite extensive damage to the pickup truck, there were no injuries. Cpl. Kelly Butler said the highway was blocked for about an hour while the scene was cleared up.
Butler said alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor to the collision and the driver of the pickup truck was issued an 90-day IRP (Immediate Roadside Prohibition).
It was the second accident of the day involving a semi. At about 8:20 a.m., a semi was taking the off ramp from the East Trans-Canada Highway at Lafarge Road when it lost control and rolled. The 54-year-old male driver was trapped inside the cab until rescuers could get him out and transport him to Royal Inland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Lafarge Road off ramp was closed for part of the morning. The driver was issued a speeding ticket.
