I’m Right and You’re an Idiot is the title of James Hoggan’s latest book on the state of the world.
It’s also the title of a talk that Hoggan — president of the Vancouver public relations firm Hoggan & Associates and chairman of the David Suzuki Foundation — gives Wednesday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m., in TRU’s Alumni Theatre.
Subtitled The Toxic State of Public Discourse and How to Clean it Up, Hoggan’s new book examines the fractured and confused nature of contemporary society. He looks at issues ranging from climate change to immigration to gun control, as well as dialogue surrounding them that is littered with misinformation and divisive rhetoric that polarize opinions.
Hoggan’s past books have included Climate Cover-up: The Crusade to Deny Global Warming and Do the Right Thing: PR Tips for a Skeptical Public.
An advocate for ethics and integrity in public relations, he founded the website DeSmogBlog to expose misinformation campaigns that confuse public debate around climate change and climate action.
Admission is free to the Oct. 12 talk, sponsored by TRU’s faculty association and the university’s sustainability office.
