Cruise or choose with KAG lottery prize

September 9, 2016 2:40 P.M.
Judy Basso, Emily Hope and Jillian Beach don their captain's hats to launch KAG's lottery.

The winner of Kamloops Art Gallery’s Luxury Vacation Lottery doesn’t have to take the $10,000 European river cruise.

That’s the fresh twist in the fifth annual fundraiser with sales of the $100 tickets launched Friday.

“This year we’re adding something new, a $5,000 travel voucher,” said Judy Basso, fundraising co-ordinator.

As hard as it is to imagine someone declining a $10,000 first-class cruise along historic waterways — with unlimited free beverages, no less — ticket buyers now have an option of a one-time travel credit for the trip of his or her choosing.

Basso said the winner each year has been someone known to gallery staff, reflecting community support for the gallery.

“Last year’s winner was Kirsten McDougall, who’s a very strong supporter of the arts. It’s nice to see what goes around, comes around.”

McDougall raved about the trip.

“Everything was just exceptional,” she told Basso. “The service, the food, the entertainment – all of it was fabulous. I enjoyed every minute. I was so lucky to win this trip.”

KAG has stayed with the river cruise prize, simply because of its wide appeal

“It’s our most popular travel item,” said Roxanna Ferguson of Travelwise Travel, one of nine sponsors. They booked three customers in the cruises Friday morning alone. “It has become very, very popular and with that, more affordable, allowing a wider spectrum of people to enjoy it.”

Only 450 tickets are sold each year, allowing for relatively good odds compared with similar lotteries elsewhere.

This year’s cruise is sponsored by Uniworld – the Boutique River Cruise Collection. They pride themselves on unrivalled luxury, impeccable attention to detail, unmatched amenities and first-class personalized service throughout Europe.

The all-inclusive service offer 24-hour room service, concierge service, scheduled airport transfer fares, all gratuities, superb dining and unlimited beverages onboard, along with a variety of dining experiences and shore excursions, Wi-Fi access, entertainment and lectures. Proceeds from this fundraiser ensure the gallery continues to offer the quality exhibitions and public programs that continue to inspire and engage our community. A further bonus: If tickets are purchased at any branch of Scotiabank, they will contribute an additional $100 to the gallery.

Tickets can also be purchased at The Gallery Store or by calling 250-377-2400, local 0.

The draw will be held at noon, Jan. 6, 2017.
