Reports of bear-human interactions are down markedly this season with fewer than half the reports logged by this time last year. Ordinarily by this time a trickle of bear reports increases to a steady flow. In 2014, there were about 300 reports...

If authorities are still looking for the marauding moose jumpers of YouTube notoriety, they might want to check Lac du Bois Protected Area. Lately I’ve begun to suspect someone of low morals is hiding in the woods up there. At night they swoop down and commit all kinds of senseless assaults on the grasslands. ...

Top of the hill — in “the heart of downtown Barnhartvale” — there’s an establishment that brings fresh meaning to fresh food. I call it an establishment only because no single definition sums up The Pond Country Market. It’s not only a market, it’s a restaurant. ...

Not too long ago my husband very lovingly said to me, “Women really must have the worst memories ever.” Normally I’d argue with him and try and defend myself, but he’s kind of right. Allow me to elaborate on why I so easily raised the white flag of defeat. ...

The last two tickets for the 2015 Dream Home have been sold. The Dream Home lottery, in partnership with Canadian Home Builders Association Central Interior,  raises funds for the Kamloops YMCA-YWCA, with prize draws July 7 starting at 9 a.m. The event will be televised on CFJC TV7. The $600,000 home is at 1990 Qu'Appelle Blvd. in Juniper Ridge and is just one of many prizes — albeit the top prize — available to the 11,000 people who bought $100 tickets. The last two tickets were sold Tuesday, the home builders announced today (Friday). "We're proud to partner with TRU School of Trades and Technology and the Kamloops YMCA-YWCA to create a successful event bringing benefits to so many in our community," said local CHBA president Matt McCurrach. "What makes this project work year after year is the cooperation and volunteer support within this community. From the land developer, suppliers and trades people to the businesses that donate prizes along and all the volunteers selling tickets, it's the people of Kamloops coming together to make great things happen." ...
