Goaltenders will open the Kamloops Blazers’ training camp with an on-ice session on Tuesday, 8 a.m., at the Sandman Centre.
The Blazers will hold a three-day goaltender camp under the tutelage of goaltending coach Dan De Palma and Jeff Reese, who is preparing for his second season as the goaltending coach with the NHL’s Dallas Stars.
The goaltenders — including Blazers starter Connor Ingram, Dylan Ferguson, who was last season’s backup, and prospect Dane Dow, 17 — will be on the ice from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., and 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., on Tuesday and Wednesday. Veteran players will take part in skill development both days, from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
The scene shifts to the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre on Thursday with goaltenders on the ice from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m., and 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The skaters will be on the ice from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
The Blazers will hold registration for their two-day rookie camp on Thursday, with 62 players expected to show up before on-ice sessions begin on Friday at the Sandman Centre.
Main camp is scheduled to open Aug. 28 and conclude Aug. 30 with the annual blue and white game at 7 p.m.
All on-ice sessions, from Tuesday through Aug. 29, are open to the public. Tickets for the blue and white game are $5; all other sessions are free to attend.
The Blazers open their exhibition season on Sept. 2, 7 p.m., against the visiting Victoria Royals. The Kelowna Rockets will play in Kamloops on Sept. 4, 5 p.m.
JUST NOTES: Former Blazers captain Tyler Shattock, 26, has signed for a second season with the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings. Shattock, from Salmon Arm, was the Wings’ captain last season. In his sixth season as a pro, he had 35 points, including 14 goals, in 59 games. He suffered a season-ending injury in the second-last game of the regular season. Shattock was in his fourth season with the Blazers in 2009-10 when he was dealt to the Calgary Hitmen. He helped the Hitmen to a WHL championship and played in the Memorial Cup in Brandon.
