The Kamloops Blazers had a busy Thursday.
They added goaltender Max Palaga to their roster, while returning forward Connor Zary, 15, to the midget AAA Saskatoon Contacts.
The Blazers also signed two undrafted 17-year-old list players — defenceman Tylor Ludwar and forward Scott Mahovlich.
Palaga, who was placed on the Blazers’ protected list a year ago, went through training camp with his hometown team before being released after Tuesday’s intrasquad game. Palaga, 16, played last season with the major midget Thompson Blazers.
With starter Connor Ingram scheduled to join the Tampa Bay Lightning’s prospects for a look-see later this month, the Blazers will need another goaltender to help them through the exhibition season. For now, then, there are three goaltenders on the Blazers’ roster — Ingram, Dylan Ferguson, who was the backup last season and Palaga.
Zary was a second-round selection by the Blazers in the 2016 bantam draft. He certainly didn’t disappoint in training camp.
Ludwar, from Regina, had 16 points, including seven goals, in 40 games with the midget AAA Regina Pat Canadians last season. He has been on the Blazers’ list since November 2014.
Mahovlich, from Abbotsford, played last season with Yale Hockey Academy’s midget prep team. In 33 games, he had three goals and six assists. The Blazers listed him in January 2015.
The Blazers open their five-game exhibition schedule tonight (Friday) agains the visiting Victoria Royals. Game time is 7 p.m. The Kelowna Rockets will visit on Sunday, 5 p.m.
JUST NOTES: D Colten Gerlib, 17, of Kamloops has signed with the WHL’s Tri-City Americans. Gerlib, whom the Americans listed in January after the Mac’s tournament in Calgary, played last season for the Valley West Hawks of the B.C. Major Midget League. He had 25 points, including seven goals, in 45 games.
