Auditions held in Kamloops, Merritt

April 2, 2016 10:49 A.M.

The regional film commission is working with local First Nations to co-ordinate auditions for the film Indian Horse.

Thompson-Nicola Film Commission is coordinating with the Tk’emlps te Secwpemc Indian Band and Citxw Nlaka’pamux Assembly, which is based in Merritt, and arranging for a film crew to videotape auditions for the movie production, based on Richard Wagamese’s novel.

They are seeking First Nations male children, youth and adults ages 6 to 25 years for speaking roles of which many will be required to play hockey in the movie.

“There is no charge to be videotaped because we want to help First Nations in the Thompson-Nicola region to have a good chance at being in the film, especially since the movie will be partially filmed in Kamloops and parts of the region” said Robin Smith, Chair, Thompson-Nicola Film Commission.

“Several First Nations mothers of young children and young actors have expressed a desire to tryout to be in the film but found the process challenging and we want to help with that” said Victoria Weller, Film Commissioner. “We’re always looking to provide opportunities for First Nations who live in and around the Nicola Valley,” Wayne Kaboni, manager of the CNA.

Parents of children who wish to audition and young adults are encouraged to call for an audition videotaping time slot or show up at the auditions to book a time.
