Accused faces judge over bail hearing

A month after beating, teen remains in hospital on life support

A hearing to consider a bail application by Kris Teichrieb, accused of attempted murder in an altercation that left a Savona teen on life support, was expected to take much of the day Monday, July 18.

Provincial Court Judge Stephen agreed to a Crown request for a publication ban on details of the case disclosed Monday. A Crown prosecutor from the Lower Mainland began the bail hearing by recounting circumstances involving Teichrieb in the weeks and months leading up to the incident.

It was Teichrieb’s first court appearance since the incident, which occurred in the early morning hours of June 19 near his home in Brocklehurst. A construction contractor with no prior offences, has been in custody at KRCC since the incident.

Jessie Simpson, 18, remains in a coma at RIH. A campaign in support of the his family has so far raised more than $10,000, twice the goal initially set.
