Thirty-five years ago next month, the city’s largest shopping mall opened its doors, changing the retail landscape in Kamloops.
Aberdeen Mall, still the No. 1 shopping destination in town, celebrates the anniversary Friday, Aug. 5
Beginning at 9 a.m. in the lower level parking lot, the mall hosts a free pancake breakfast for shoppers (while the pancakes last or until 11 a.m., whichever comes first). The Valleyview Overlanders Lions Club along with Blenz Coffee will be there to assist.
“We are asking those who are attend to bring either a non-perishable food bank donation or gently used clothing in exchange for breakfast,” said Brynn Gise, the mall’s marketing and specialty leasing director. “Items collected will be benefiting the Kamloops Food Bank and Big Brothers Big Sisters, two groups we are proud to support and work with.”
The first 100 shoppers that day will receive a special swag bag filled with gifts and special offers from mall retailers. In the afternoon, festivities continue with cupcakes at Centre Court and the opportunity to win prizes from retailers. Participating stores will be open at 9 a.m.
“We want shoppers to embrace the fun and allow us to give back to the community with a breakfast and prize giveaways,” Brynn said. “We appreciate their business and support and we’re proud to give back to the community.”
Aberdeen Mall supports community groups annually through donations, sponsorship and complimentary space for fundraising and awareness.
